A film is incomplete without a villain. Be it action, drama or romance, every film needs a villain — the antagonist who stands toe to toe with the good guy. Year 2017 saw a slew of films with many great performances. Let’s check out the actors who nailed the bad guy role and gave a tough competition to the protagonist of the film.
Rana Daggubati (Baahubali 2)
Rana as the tyrant ruler, Bhallaldeva, was probably one of the best things about the film as the invincible greedy king. Rana did a lot of groundwork to do justice to his character, which ultimately paid off. Nobody could have imagined the boy next door from Tollywood can essay the role of a sinister king with such finesse. Fans and critics alike have already ranked him as one of the best villains of all time
Ronit and Rohit Roy (Kaabil)
The Roy brothers (Rohit and Ronit) are considered two of the most talented actors in the industry yet underrated. Nonetheless, hard work always pays off as the brothers earned worldwide appreciation for their characters. While Rohit essayed the role of a spoilt brat, who raped a blind girl, Ronit perfected the role of his elder brother, who will do anything necessary to protect his younger brother
Jackie Shroff (Sarkar 3)
You don’t see Jackie Shroff essaying the role of a bad guy too often. But when he steps into the shoes of an antagonist, you can expect a stellar performance for sure. Jackie as the eccentric business tycoon, Michael Vallaya, had a warm welcome in the franchise as the fans and critics loved his performance. The veteran actor has done some villainous roles in the past too, but this is one of his most eccentric performances
Abhimanyu Singh (Mom)
A revenge-based drama film, Sridevi stole the show in her comeback film but the psychotic leader of the gang, Abhimanyu, did justify his role. He was the only villain in the film who turned the tables on Sridevi.
Vidyut Jammwal (Baadshaho)
Fans loved him in Force for being John Abraham’s equal in the action-thriller film as the antagonist, Vishnu. Vidyut made a comeback as the bad guy in Baadshaho with style and, of course, some jaw-dropping parkour sequences. The film, which is set in the emergency era of 1975-77, features Vidyut as an army officer, who will stop at nothing to put down the ‘good guys’
Sidharth Malhotra (Ittefaq)
Everyone believed that Sonakshi Sinha is the female antagonist in this film and Sidharth is indeed innocent. But in the final moments of the film, Sidharth reveals his perfectly executed plan to Akshaye Khanna that he conspired everything so that he can have a safe haven for himself. Surely nobody would have imagined that ‘A Gentleman’ can be a ruthless murder. Sidharth’s entry in the list is not only shocking but also showcases his versatility to experiment with characters.
