GURGAON: The police, in association with a Delhi-based NGO, organised a bike rally against drunk driving on Saturday. The exercise furthers our drive against drunk driving. Our association with the NGO Campaign Against Drunken Driving (CADD) is meant to create awareness among people and educate them against the menace of drunk driving,” said police commissioner S S Deswal.

Deswal added that the move will help instill traffic discipline among drivers in the city, which records a number of cases of drunk driving in the city.

Cinestars Rohit Roy and Sudhanshu were also present on the occassion to show the support for the cause.

Meanwhile, as many as 635 persons were issued challans for traffic violations on Friday alone. These include 10 challans for drunk driving, 154 for wrong parking and 62 for over speeding, said a senior police official.

“This drive is being conducted in all areas of Gurgaon. Different teams have been stationed near hotels, pubs, bars and restaurants in Gurgaon where several people are caught for drunken driving,” said Deswal.

He added that traffic police is conducting over speeding checks on NH-8, Sohna road, Pataudi road, Faridabad road and other major roads of Gurgaon. “On Friday, overspeeding challans were conducted by a team of 7 officials near Lal Dabha, Samrat Hotel, and Village Sidharawali. Special drives are being conducted to check wrong parking in the busy areas of Gurgaon,” said another senior rank official.
