Rohit Roy and Mansi Joshi Roy in a chat with TOI.

It’s been quite sometime since you’ve been here.

Rohit: Ahmedabad has changed so much! I was amazed to see the river-front and ring road — the city look as grand as a mega city. I miss the city so much — I have so many school and college time memories here. Mansi: Rohit and I went to our favourite restaurant on CG Road to enjoy chhole-bhature. I also wanted to go to Law Garden to do some shopping. May be next time.

Have you both quit television? Rohit: Not really. TV shows have all become regressive and content is TVT driven. If one show is successful, you’ll have a whole lot of similar themed shows. It’s so predictable and boring. I was very excited with my stint in Sajda…Tere Pyaar Mein but unfortunately as soon as I entered the show, it wrapped up. In Hitler Didi, I had a cameo that was interesting character. After that nothing great has come my way. Mansi: I think I am more choosy than Rohit. If you look at my career graph, in 10 years, I have done only four shows. I only take up something if I find it interesting and challenging. Having said that, I would have loved to do a show like Bade Achche Laggte Hain. Rohit: Oh yes! If you take up a show like that in future — I would love to be with you in it!

What has strengthened your relationship over the years? Rohit: We dated for seven years and have been married for 14 years. It doesn’t feel like I’ve known her for 21 years! I think patience was the key to making our relationship so strong. Mansi: Ours is not a marriage out of a Sooraj Barjatya movie! We fight but it is for our life together. So that helps in strengthening the bond. Rohit: I haven’t had any major professional upsets in life like my brother Ronit whose B-Town career ended abruptly and it took years for him to bounce back. In the ups and downs that I’ve faced Mansi has supported me strongly.

How has your relationship changed with your daughter Kiara entering in your lives? Rohit: It was magical and life has changed completely for us. I was the first one to hold her in my arms and she’s 11 now! Her coming in our lives has added more love to our relationship, even if it does sound cheesy. Mansi: We are childish, but thanks to Kiara — we have become matured. She’s the focus for us.

You even did Nach Baliye... Mansi: We did the first season of the show and were the first jodi to get eliminated. I was scared of dancing and took it up as Rohit convinced me to do the show. Rohit: I am glad we took it up, at least now, Mansi is not scared of dancing. It was an unforgettable experience. Mansi: Of course unforgettable! After all we fought the most when we did rehearsals for the show!
